For a family of four, 5 nights and 5 park days, Disney World really costs about $7,428 on a value budget, $10,058 on a moderate one and $12,988 going deluxe, with flights and the hidden costs included. Most of the jump between tiers is the hotel and the food, not the parks.
There's no such thing as a cheap Disney World trip, but there's a huge range between "careful" and "we only live once". The same family can spend the same five days in the same four parks and come home with bills thousands of dollars apart. The trick is knowing where that money goes, so you can spend it on the parts your family will actually remember.
Three budgets, side by side
We priced the same trip three ways: a family of four, 5 nights and 5 park days, flying from a typical US airport. Only the hotel, food, tickets and a couple of extras change.
| Value | Moderate | Deluxe | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park tickets | $2,100 | $2,400 | $2,400 |
| Hotel (5 nights) | $1,100 | $1,875 | $3,625 |
| Food | $960 | $1,800 | $2,640 |
| Flights | $1,640 | $1,640 | $1,640 |
| Looks like | $5,800 | $7,715 | $10,305 |
| Forgotten costs | +$1,628 | +$2,343 | +$2,683 |
| Really costs | $7,428 | $10,058 | $12,988 |
What each budget gets you
Value: about $7,428
A Disney value resort like Pop Century or the All-Stars, 5-day base tickets with no park hopping, quick-service meals, and no paid line skipping. We used about $220 a night for the hotel and $40 per person a day for food.
Moderate: about $10,058
A moderate resort like Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans, 5-day Park Hopper tickets, a mix of quick-service and sit-down meals, and Lightning Lane. We used about $375 a night for the hotel and $75 per person a day for food.
Deluxe: about $12,988
A deluxe resort like the Polynesian or Animal Kingdom Lodge, Park Hopper tickets, mostly sit-down dining, Lightning Lane and the photo package. We used about $725 a night for the hotel and $110 per person a day for food.
The upgrade math
Going from value to moderate adds about $2,630. Going from moderate to deluxe adds another $2,930. That's mostly the hotel and the food: deluxe resorts can run $450 to $1,000 or more a night, against $120 to $350 at a value resort.
Where to save and where to splurge
- Save on the hotel. A value resort still gets you Disney's buses and early park entry. You'll mostly be there to sleep.
- Save on park hopping. Many families never use it. Five full days in five parks works fine.
- Splurge on Lightning Lane on your busiest park day, not every day. Our moderate and deluxe budgets include it all five days, about $600 for the family.
- Splurge on one character meal. It costs about $160 more than regular meals for the family, and it's often the photo you keep.
- Watch the extras that don't change with your budget. Bag fees, the airport ride, souvenirs and park snacks cost the same whether you're at the All-Stars or the Grand Floridian.
How we got these numbers
All three columns come from our Disney World calculator, set to a family of four and 5 nights. Hotel and food ranges come from a 2026 Disney World budget breakdown: about $120 to $350 a night for value resorts, $250 to $500 for moderate and $450 to $1,000 or more for deluxe, and about $30 to $40, $50 to $70 and $80 to $120 per adult a day for food. Tickets are $525 per person for a 5-day base ticket and $600 with Park Hopper; 5-day tickets run about $485 to $690 before hopping, depending on the dates. Prices change a lot by date, so set your own dates and numbers in the calculator.
